Saving Health for All Nations

Psalm 67 asks God for mercy, blessing and the light of His face — and then it says why: that His way may be known upon earth, and His saving health among all nations. The prayer of the church has to be that wide. Psalm 67:1-2 — God be merciful unto us, and bless us; and cause his face to shine upon us; Selah. That thy way may be known upon earth, thy saving health among all nations. True health and happiness can only come from God, the Creator of the universe and the source of all blessings. The writer begins this passage of Scripture by asking God to be merciful unto us and bless us. A prayer that leaves nobody out Including everyone in our prayer is a good, healthy and caring habit. It brings people together and spreads peace. It reminds us of the way Christ extends His mercy and love to all people in the world without partiality. It shows us how to care for friends, strangers, and even our enemies with genuine love. In 1 Timothy 2:1 we are admonished to pray for all people. ...

The Temple You Live In

God wishes us to prosper, to be in health, and to prosper in soul — and Scripture ties the three together. The body is not our own property to treat as we please, and its care is part of the work of restoration. 3 John 1:2 — Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. God expects all His people to excel in all three of these areas. He wants us to prosper in the material things of life, for us to be in good health, and for us to prosper spiritually. One wish, in three parts John does not ask for one of these at the expense of another. The verse holds all three together. There is always a direct and significant link between physical, spiritual and mental health. The body is a temple God expects our bodies to be temples for His Holy Spirit. 1 Corinthians 6:19 — What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? Not your own Paul settles...

Ministry of Healing

Many things contribute to good health — cheerfulness, fresh air, exercise, diet, and our relationships with other people. Crucial also is a personal relationship with the Creator who gave us life. 3 John 1:2 — Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. According to the writer, many things contribute to good health — cheerfulness, fresh air, exercise, diet, and positive relationships with other people, to name a few. Crucial also is a personal relationship with the Creator who gave us life and everything we need for health and happiness. In this book Ellen White deals with sickness of the soul and the healing balm to be found by trusting God for all things. Written in simple, beautiful language, Ministry of Healing will point you to a life full of joy and gladness — a life in touch with the Source of healing power. Named in the book Not one of them is a remedy on its own. They are the ordinary conditions under which a...

Mental Health Failure

The crisis the nations are facing will not be solved in parliament, in the courts, or in the conference halls. Isaiah names the seat of the trouble: the whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint. Isaiah 1:4–5 — Ah sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, a seed of evildoers, children that are corrupters: they have forsaken the LORD, they have provoked the Holy One of Israel unto anger, they are gone away backward. Why should ye be stricken any more? ye will revolt more and more: the whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint. The severe crisis that nations are facing today cannot be solved in parliament, nor in the institutions. Modern-day calamities cannot be solved in the court of law, nor in the conference halls of peace treaties. Mental and physical health issues have reached a global crisis point that has captured the attention of most people. From heads of government to the last person in the street, all have become limited in their capacity to help with spi...

Growing Stronger: The Third and Fourth Dimensions of Development

Christ reached up and took hold of Divinity, then reached down and touched humanity. Favour with God and favour with man are the last two dimensions of Luke 2:52 — and they are not separate achievements. Luke 2:52 — And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man. The life of Christ illustrates the ultimate model for holistic growth. As our Saviour and Role Model, He laid the foundation of a perfect progressive life. He left an example in the fundamentals of Christian growth and development. His growth and development are an example to all those who are seeking true success in life. 1 John 2:6 — He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked. Christ was connected to God the Father and He mingled with people for their own good. He was in favour both with God and man. Those who follow Christ's example will certainly find favour with God and humanity. There is no truth more important than to know that our development ...

Growing Stronger: The Second Dimension of Development

Christ increased in stature as well as in wisdom. The health of His body and His mind worked in harmony until the day He died — and the same growth is not beyond the reach of any of us. Luke 2:52 — And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man. This is a clear indication that Christ showed physical growth and development. As He increased and developed in mind, so He increased in the stature of His body. He was proper — adhering to strong morals and social standards as well as to physical health. The health of His body and the health of His mind worked harmoniously, symmetrically, with each other until He died. Physical health is an essential part of holistic growth 3 John 1:2 — Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. Health of body and mind Spiritual health Temporal affairs These three things are necessary for human development and a prosperous life. Everyone should earnestly seek to p...

Growing Stronger, Wiser and Better Every Day

Martin Luther King Jr. taught that a complete life has three dimensions — length, breadth and height. Luke 2:52 gives us four, and it does not begin where he began. Luke 2:52 — And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man. Martin Luther King Jr. preached that there are three dimensions to a complete life: length, breadth and height. By length he meant the inward concern for one's own welfare — the drive that pushes a person forward, the motivation that propels them towards their own goals and ambitions. By breadth he meant the outward concern for the welfare of others: the human touch, help given, kind deeds done. By height he meant the upward reach for God. You need all three, he said, to have a complete and balanced life. That is a good definition as far as it goes. But look carefully at where he began. The trouble with starting inside yourself King held that the length of life is the inward concern for one's own welfare, and that this ...
