Ministry of Healing

First light low over still water — the opening image of the Ministry of Healing section

Many things contribute to good health — cheerfulness, fresh air, exercise, diet, and our relationships with other people. Crucial also is a personal relationship with the Creator who gave us life.

3 John 1:2 — Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.

According to the writer, many things contribute to good health — cheerfulness, fresh air, exercise, diet, and positive relationships with other people, to name a few. Crucial also is a personal relationship with the Creator who gave us life and everything we need for health and happiness. In this book Ellen White deals with sickness of the soul and the healing balm to be found by trusting God for all things. Written in simple, beautiful language, Ministry of Healing will point you to a life full of joy and gladness — a life in touch with the Source of healing power.

A diagram of what contributes to health — cheerfulness, fresh air and exercise, diet and temperance, and relationships with others and with God.

Named in the bookNot one of them is a remedy on its own. They are the ordinary conditions under which a body was made to live.

Need of education in health principles

Education in health principles was never more needed than now. Notwithstanding the wonderful progress in so many lines relating to the comforts and conveniences of life, even to sanitary matters and to the treatment of disease, the decline in physical vigor and power of endurance is alarming. It demands the attention of all who have at heart the well-being of their fellow men.

Our artificial civilization is encouraging evils destructive of sound principles. Custom and fashion are at war with nature. The practices they enjoy, and the indulgences they foster, are steadily lessening both physical and mental strength, and bringing upon the race an intolerable burden. Intemperance and crime, disease and wretchedness, are everywhere.

Body and soul togetherThe prayer is for health of body measured against the health of the soul — the two are not treated as separate concerns.

What should we do when disease comes upon us?

In case of sickness, the cause should be ascertained. Unhealthful conditions should be changed, wrong habits corrected. Then nature is to be assisted in her effort to expel impurities and to re-establish right conditions in the system.

Cause before cureFind the reason, change the conditions, correct the habit — and only then assist nature in the work she is already doing.

Also in this section: The Temple You Live In takes up 1 Corinthians 6:19 and the body God owns by creation and by redemption.

If this study has raised something you would like to talk through, the team reads every message: ask a Bible question, or send a prayer request.

On the health of body and mind together, Growing Stronger: The Second Dimension takes up the same verse, 3 John 1:2, and what it asks of us. For the wider condition behind so much of our sickness, Mental Health Failure turns to Isaiah 1:5.

Overcoming Obstacles: Part Two

"He that overcometh" is one of the most repeated phrases in Revelation. Scripture names what must be overcome — sin, the world, the mark of the beast — and names what is given to the one who does. The phrase "He that overcometh" or "To him that overcometh" is one of the most used phrases in the book of Revelation. There are many challenges to overcome along the path of life. There are major obstacles that are unavoidable, and some that we must overcome before we can enter heaven. According to the word of God, it is imperative that we overcome sin (Romans 6:12), the world (1 John 5:4) and the "mark of the beast" (Revelation 15:2). Life's struggles and challenges are many, but nothing to compare to the crises just before us. We must now build resilience and fortitude that will give our experiences true meaning and depth in Christ. Named, not left vague Three enemies, three references. Scripture does not leave the overcomer guessing what h...

Britain in Trouble

Britain once made its boast in God and championed Christian values across the globe. Then prosperity came, God was set aside, and no law since has closed the gates. Great Britain was one of the champions of the world during the Industrial Revolution. In spite of all its mistakes, Britain led many important developments, and was a champion of family life and of Christian religious values across the globe. The nation used to make its boast in God — especially in times of conquest, and in victory after difficult wars. A nation that knew where its strength lay The people of these beautiful islands knew that they could not be Great Britain without the help of the Supernatural God. Winston Churchill put it plainly at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1949: The flame of Christian ethics is still our highest guide. To guard and cherish it is our first interest, both spiritually and materially. The fulfilment of spiritual duty in our daily life is vital to our survival. Only by ...

Inspecting Your House

Hezekiah was in the prime of his life when the prophet told him to set his house in order. Preparation is not something to leave for a crisis — it is the work of a calm and reflective day. Isaiah 38:1 — In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came unto him, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Set thine house in order: for thou shalt die, and not live. This whole planet is now sick unto death. Hezekiah was a successful and honourable king in the prime of his life — filled with quickening zeal, aspirations and great expectations. Then he became sick unto death, and he needed to hear words of comfort and assurance. What Isaiah the prophet, the messenger of God, brought him instead was this: “Set thine house in order: for thou shalt die, and not live.” In the midst of life In the midst of life and happiness, we are all exposed to sickness and death. Some people are keen to prepare once they are aware that death is near, but never stop ...
